
Tom Dean and Lewis Burras claimed two more bronze medals for Great Britain on the final day of action in the 2018 European Junior Swimming Championships.Wi
With a gold and bronze already in his pocket, Dean won his third medal of the Helsinki championships in this afternoon’s men’s 400m individual medley final.
His time of 4:18.07 saw him home third, behind winner Maksim Stupin of Russia in 4:16.79, and runner-up Apostolos Papastamos of Greece in 4:17.44. Fellow Brit Charlie Hutchinson was fifth in 4:20.55.
Burras swam a great race in the men’s 50m freestyle final to clock 22.69, but he too had to settle for third behind Swede Bjoern Seeliger (22.27) and Russian Kliment Kolesnikov (22.61).
Later in the afternoon, Dean had another final outing in the men’s 200m freestyle, but had to settle for seventh in 1:49.99.
Freya Anderson also just missed out on another medal to end her final junior outing. She was fourth in the women’s 50m butterfly final, with a time of 27.16.
Lily Boseley finished sixth in the women’s 100m backstroke final, in a time of 1:02.22. Russian Daria Vaskina won gold, cracking the one-minute barrier to record a winning time of 59.90.
Meanwhile, Archie Goodburn reached the men’s 100m breaststroke final, finishing eighth in 1:03.49.
Britain had two finalists in the women’s 100m breaststroke. Katie Robertson finished fifth in 1:08.74, one place ahead of Tatiana Belonogoff in 1:08.81.
The British women also had to settle for fourth in the 4x200m freestyle relay. The team of Rachel Anderson, Laura McNab, Leah Crisp and Freya Anderson finished in a time of 8:06.43 behind gold medallists Hungary, runners-up Germany and third-placed Russia.
The men had to settle for fifth in the 4x100m medley final. Nick Pyle, Archie Goodburn, Jacob Peters and Lewis Burras finished in 3:39.58. Russia took the gold in 3:35.58.
