
Tatiana Belonogoff has won Great Britain’s first gold medal of the 2018 European Junior Swimming Championships in Helsinki.
Belonogoff stormed to victory in this afternoon’s 50m breaststroke final, winning in a time of 31.29 to narrowly beat Germany’s Anna Elendt (31.36) and Slovenia’s Tina Celik (31.57).
Fellow Brit swimmer Katie Robertson finished fifth in a time of 31.70, while Jacob Peters was seventh in his 50m butterfly final.
Hungarian swimmer Ajna Kesely won the day’s first gold medal, dominating the women’s 400m IM in a time of 4:41.55,shortly before Kristof Milak claimed Hungary’s second gold in the men’s 400m freestyle.
The British 4x100m freestyle team of Lewis Burras, Harry Constantine, Luke Turley and Archie Goodburn finished seventh in their final, clocking a time of 3:22.63. Russia were the winners, holding off Italy and Germany.
