Great Britain smashed the European record to win gold in the mixed 4x100m medley relay final at Glasgow 2018 tonight.
The British team hacked more than one second off their own record of two years ago, winning the final race of the evening in 3:40.18.
Georgia Davies, fresh from her gold medal in the 50m backstroke, got Britain off to a great start, before Adam Peaty and James Guy cranked up the pressure to give the host nation a commanding lead.
Teenager Freya Anderson was handed the responsibility of bringing home the gold, which she did in style ahead of Russia and Italy.
Peaty said: “I was probably feeling about a nine out of 10 today, after the World Record I was a bit sore, but it was great to get back into the pool and win.”
There were three other medals for Britain tonight in individual events, thanks to James Wilby, Max Litchfield and Alys Thomas.
Wilby claimed a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke, while Litchfield and Thomas both earned bronze medals in the men’s 200m IM and women’s 200m butterfly respectively.
Wilby was second only to Anton Chupkov’s new European record time of 2:06.80. Chupkov shaved 0.19 seconds off his own record.
Wilby said: “I’m generally very happy – I’d never complain to come away with a medal.
“I’ve had such a great year with the 100m and 200m, and I’m looking forward to the next two years working towards Tokyo. I love it here at Glasgow, it’s a great pool and a great atmosphere.”
