Swimming is a one-of-a-kind sport that stands out from the rest, but it’s common for swimmers who put in long hours of training to feel a dip in motivation. Don’t worry, it happens to everyone! Here are a few tips to keep you going strong.
Set Goals
Motivation and goals go hand in hand! Setting achievable goals is key to staying focused and committed to your workouts. Avoid setting unrealistic or vague goals that may hinder your progress.
Set SMART goals; Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and trackable. Not only do you want to have a long-term goal, but you will also need shorter term SMART goals to help you get there. This will help you to reach your long-term goal, step by step!
If you’re not making progress, reach out to your coach for guidance on tweaking your smaller goals to reach your ultimate goal.
Be Focused
Swimming without focus is not recommended. Make sure you have clear goals in mind when you dive into the pool. It’s important to stay focused on what you need to do to achieve those goals. Practice only becomes boring when you don’t have a purpose, so always have a set goal to work towards!
Challenge Yourself
Sticking to what you know can get pretty dull. So why not push yourself a little every day? It’s way more satisfying and inspiring to accomplish something new or improve on what you’ve already done!
Link Up With Friends and Teammates
Swimming with friends and teammates is a great way to stay motivated! They’ll encourage you to push your limits and provide a supportive environment to celebrate your successes as a team.
Reward Yourself
No matter how insignificant your accomplishments may seem, it’s crucial to acknowledge them! Keep in mind that they all contribute to your ultimate objective, so make sure to celebrate each milestone along the way!
Have Fun
We know this is a cliche answer, but if you are having fun in the water, it will help to motivate you to push yourself out of your comfort zone and help you to achieve your swimming goals!
