There were a couple of thrilling finishes in the men’s 50m freestyle finals during day one of the Swim England National Summer Meet in Sheffield.

City of Cambridge swimmer Sebastian Vandermeer edged out Jacob Armon by the narrowest 0.01 second margin to win the 15 Yrs gold in 24.84.

Seals RSA swimmer Armon was given a commemorative medal for his peformance, while the Swim England National Summer Meet silver went to Basildon’s Lewis Binning.

There was also a 0.01 second winning margin in the 16 Yrs final, where Hailsham’s Thomas Exail just held off the challenge of Ipswich’s Lewis Moore to touch first in 24.42.

One of the day’s most enthralling battles came in the 16 Yrs final of the men’s 400m individual medley. Kieran Dale and Willem Koster locked horns in a fantastic race, which Dulwich Dolphins swimmer Koster led by nearly three seconds after 200m.

Dale hunted him down to regain the lead and touched the wall first to take the gold in 4:40.66. Koster clocked 4:40.95 for silver, while Beckenham’s Timothy Leberl took bronze in 4:46.26.
