Vladimir Morozov claimed a new world record in the third leg of the 2018 FINA World Cup at Eindhoven over the weekend.

Morozov regained the lead in the series with three gold medals, the highlight being a stunning 50.26 in the 100m IM that bettered his previous world record of 50.30 set in the World Cup at Berlin two years ago.

The Russian also won gold in the 50m and 100m free, amassing 80 points to overtake fellow Russian swimmer Anton Chupkov at the top of the men’s standings.

Sarah Sjöström is still leading the women’s series after another four wins in Holland.

The defending World Cup champion won gold in the 100m and 200m freestyle as well as the 50m and 100m butterfly.

In the previous two rounds, Sjöström had also won the 50m freestyle however this time she had to settle for silver behind Ranomi Kromowidjojo.

She also claimed a silver in the 100m IM, and her winning time of 54.91 in the 100m butterfly was a new World Cup record.

Katinka Hosszu was the winner in that 100m IM race, which was one of four gold medals for the Hungarian star.

Hosszu went on to claim a clean sweep of IM wins with golds in the 200m and 400m, along with a victory in the 200m butterfly.

She has now bagged 25 medals after three rounds of the series, including 16 golds, and is second in the standings behind Sjöström.

Elsewhere in the women’s races, there were two wins for third-placed Yuliya Efimova in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, while the USA’s Kathleen Baker won the 100m and 200m backstroke.

Defending men’s champion Chad le Clos recovered from illness to claim a pair of wins in the 100m and 200m butterfly, while Russian Kiril Progoda won the 100m and 200m breaststroke – the latter in a new World Cup record time of 2:01.59.
