If you’re an open water or cold water swimmer, they can help prevent surfer’s ear or exostosis. In very cold water, earplugs can also help you maintain your balance and prevent dizziness. If cold water comes in contact with your eardrum, it can disrupt your equilibrium due to a shift in temperature.

Some Earplug Tips

Keep earplugs in while showering: Although it may feel normal to take them out when you remove your swim cap, keep them in to avoid any water getting into your ears.

Choose bright colours: They are small and can sometimes fall out of your ears. If they end up at the bottom of the pool, you’ll find them easier with bright colours.

Keep them clean: Make sure to clean them using warm, soapy water to get rid of any chlorinated water or bacteria-laden water from lakes and rivers.

Insert them carefully: Most folks know not to stick things deep into the ear canal because of the risk of puncturing the eardrum and causing permanent injury and hearing loss. This goes for earplugs too.
